The TVT Programme
- The TVT programme currently offered at the School of Education is a one year full time programme.
- Build capacity of existing, professionally unqualified TVET lecturers to teach their subject specialisation (i.e. operate as an in-service professional teaching qualification}.
- Your previous qualifications/structures will determine which teaching specializations you qualify for.
- Serve as a ‘capping’ qualification for graduates and/or diplomates already in possession of a general undergraduate bachelor degree or diploma related to a TVET subject specialisation, to become professionally qualified as a TVET educator.
- Prepare for postgraduate study.
Requirements
The minimum admission requirement is an appropriate:
- Undergraduate Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7);
- Bachelor of Technology degree (NQF level 7);
- Advanced Diploma (NQF level 7);
- Postgraduate Certificate in Education (NQF level 7);
- Undergraduate diploma (NQF level 6, 360 credits);
- National N Diploma (NQF level 6, 360 credits)
Please note that a completed qualification does not give automatic entry into the AdvDip TVT programme.
- The entry qualification must include appropriate and sufficient disciplinary subject knowledge to teach a technical or vocational subject or skill as taught in institutions offering TVET programmes.
- The disciplinary subject knowledge must have been studied at the exit level of the entry qualification. The entry qualification should include at least 30 credits of disciplinary knowledge at NQF level 6.
- Where disciplinary subject knowledge is insufficient, additional learning courses may be required before admission to the AdvDip TVT qualification.
The modules & structure of the programme
- The Advanced Diploma in Technical and Vocational Teaching is an NQF level 7 qualification composed of core modules (80 credits) and elective modules (48 credits), a total of 128 credits and offered one year full-time dependent on the cohort OR two years part-time dependent on the cohort.
- All modules are 16 credits.
- All students MUST complete:
- five core (compulsory)_ module
- three specialisation (elective) modules
- two endorsements modules
- The requirement for an elective is two modules aligned at NQF Level 6.
- Information on which specialisations will be offered and on which campus these specialisations are offered can be obtained from the relevant AdvDip TVT administrative officer. Specialisation offerings are subject to a minimum required number of students per University rules/policy.
